Jewelry Repair

Sizing, re-tipping, stone replacement, chain repair

Do you repair jewelry not purchased at Florida Diamond Center?

Yes. We repair any piece regardless of where you bought it. Ring sizing, re-tipping, stone replacement, chain repair, and most other bench work is handled in house by our jewelers. Estimates are free. Most repairs are finished within the week.

What we repair

Our in-house bench handles the full range of everyday jewelry repair. Ring sizing up or down (typically a half size in either direction without rebuilding the band), re-tipping worn prongs, re-shanking thin or worn bands, replacing missing accent stones, soldering or re-building broken chains, restringing pearls, clasp replacements, and soldering together fused or broken pieces. If a piece is damaged beyond conventional repair, we will tell you honestly and discuss options like rebuilding the piece from scratch or converting the stones into a new setting.

How the process works

Bring the piece in any day we are open. Walk-ins welcome, no appointment. A jeweler looks at it under magnification at the counter and gives you a written estimate while you wait. Most single-task jobs (sizing, tightening a stone, soldering a clasp) are quoted and often completed the same day or within the week. Complex jobs involving multiple stones or delicate metal work take longer. You approve the estimate before we start work, and we do not add to it without calling you first.

Why in house matters

Many retail jewelers send repairs out to third-party shops. We do not. Every piece that leaves our counter for repair stays in the store, and the same jeweler who took it in is usually the one doing the work. That matters for a few reasons. First, your piece never leaves our sight. Second, questions are answered by the person holding the piece. Third, timelines are under our control, not a vendor queue. If a piece needs a jeweler to look at it one more time before we return it to you, that jeweler is right there.

What we charge

Prices depend on metal, complexity, and whether stones need to be removed and reset. Simple ring sizing starts around $40 to $80. Single prong re-tipping runs $40 to $100 depending on metal (platinum costs more than gold). Chain repair is usually $25 to $60. Stone replacement depends entirely on the stone. Estimates are free, always written, and you decide whether to proceed.

Inspection and maintenance (free for customers)

Every ring we sell comes with a lifetime of complimentary inspections and cleanings. Bring it in once a year for a professional cleaning, prong check, and stone tightness check. For rings purchased elsewhere, cleaning and inspection are still free; repairs are quoted separately.

Frequently Asked

How long does ring sizing take? +
Most sizing jobs are finished within a few days to a week. Simple sizing while you wait is sometimes possible if the shop schedule allows.
Can you re-tip platinum? +
Platinum re-tipping needs a laser welder to keep heat away from the stone. We have one in the shop.
Can you repair a piece that has been "fixed" poorly by someone else? +
Usually. Prior bad repairs sometimes take more work to correct, so we look at the piece and talk through the trade-offs before quoting.
Do you work on pieces set with pearls, opals, or emeralds? +
Yes, with extra care. These stones are heat and chemical sensitive, so we often remove them before bench work and reset them after. We walk you through the plan first.
What if my ring is too damaged to repair? +
Sometimes rebuilding is cheaper than an extensive repair. Sometimes resetting the stones into a new setting makes more sense. Either way, you get the options and the numbers before any work starts.
