Jewelry Appraisal

Walk-in evaluations, written insurance appraisals

How do I get a jewelry appraisal in Tampa Bay?

Bring your piece to our store in Holiday, FL. Our GIA Graduate Gemologist evaluates it on the spot for resale, and we can produce a written insurance or estate appraisal for a flat fee. Walk-in evaluations are free and carry no obligation.

What an appraisal actually is

An appraisal is a written valuation of a piece of jewelry, signed by a qualified gemologist. It identifies the piece, describes it in detail (metal, stone characteristics, weights, measurements, markings), and states a value based on a specific valuation standard: retail replacement value for insurance, fair market value for estate or divorce, or immediate liquidation value for resale. The standard changes the number, so tell us which one you need.

Who performs the appraisal

Our appraisals are performed by a GIA Graduate Gemologist on site. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the internationally recognized authority on diamond and gemstone grading. The credential means the appraiser has been trained in stone identification, grading, and valuation and is qualified to produce documentation that insurers and estates will accept.

What a written appraisal includes

A proper written appraisal document includes: the appraiser's name, credentials, and signature; the date; a detailed description covering metal type and karat, stone weights and grading, dimensions, piece weight, and any markings; a plotting diagram or photograph; the valuation standard used; and the value, stated clearly. It is not a business-card note. It is a document your insurer, attorney, or executor will accept.

Walk-in evaluations

Walk-in evaluations are free. You bring the piece during business hours, we look at it at the counter, and we tell you what we see. If you are considering selling, we make an offer. If you are considering insuring, we tell you what a written appraisal would say and what it would cost. If you are just curious, we answer your questions.

When you need a written appraisal

Insurance companies require a current written appraisal (typically within the last two to three years) to schedule a piece. Estates often need written valuations for probate or distribution among heirs. Divorce settlements benefit from independent appraisals. Gifts to charity require a qualified appraisal above certain values. Most other situations can be handled with a verbal evaluation.

Frequently Asked

What does a written appraisal cost? +
Flat fee per item, confirmed before we start. Typical range is $50 to $150 per item depending on complexity. Be cautious of anyone charging a percentage of the appraised value; that creates an incentive to inflate.
How long does an appraisal take? +
For straightforward pieces we can often complete the evaluation during your visit. Complex or antique pieces may take a few days while we research marks and comparable values.
Do I leave the piece with you? +
No. The evaluation happens while you wait. For written appraisals we may take additional photos or specifications, but the piece stays with you.
Can you appraise jewelry I bought online? +
Happy to. Bring the piece and any certification paperwork. We tell you whether it matches the description and provide an independent valuation.
Do you handle estate appraisals for probate? +
Standard estate valuations, in house. For estates requiring USPAP-certified reports (often high-value or tax-related filings) we refer to a credentialed specialist.
